Another fascinating update. Too bad you're not going to get to go to the South Pole or ice diving. Thanks for the update. (I'm sure Sara didn't need to hear the part about the hikers falling into the crevasse, though.)
Posted by Dave at November 5, 2003 07:40 AMIn response to Dave's intuitive observation, I can think of no other reason to mention the crevasses, or "death traps" as I now see them, than to make me and your mother worry. Just watch where you're going.
Posted by Sara at November 5, 2003 10:49 AMMatt...I agree with Sara once again. I was just beginning to get past my apprehension and to be able to share your excitement. Please watch out for those crevasses. I really prefer to not be reminded about the dangers.
I have had several people ask me if you are where the TV show about the doctor took place. Are you, or was that Palmer?
Posted by MOM at November 5, 2003 02:03 PMdiving? at the bottom of the world? No thanks.
On the network thing, does the cold slow down the network? I'd suspect the opposite. If things are really that slow, need some networking help down there.
For Polar Ice, perhaps a local server doing the work with absolute minimal data retrieved from Denver? Only send down the data, let the local server handle the , images, etc.
Posted by Steve at November 5, 2003 02:32 PMMatt, your adventures are very exciting for all of us at EHS. Ryan, my son was excited to here about your project also. Thanks for the Expt. Project Info. It will be a great help to the Chem 2's. They are writing NASA Student Involvement Projects. One of the areas is "Watching Earth Change" using satellite data to study changes on Earth. Many projects listed seem to use this technology. Any other info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Mary
